HISTORY
Established in March 1989, SOFITA is the first full service private translation agency in Bulgaria. Its owner-manager, Mr. Nikolai LAZAROV, is a member of the Bulgarian Translators’ Union and former manager of its Translations Bureau. Both Mr. Lazarov and the Managing Director, Mrs. Ramona STOYANOVA, have an experience of over 18 years in organising international events and providing simultaneous interpreting, document translation and all the related services and staff in the languages of the world.
INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
Among the many international
fora SOFITA has helped organise, worth noting are: the Assembly
of the Interparliamentary Union, UNESCO’s General Assembly
and the CSCE Environmental Meeting held in Sofia in 1989;
the Varna Red Cross Film Festivals; the SWISSCOM Conference;
the Congress of the Association of International Congress Centres;
the Congress of the Transnational Radical Party; a number
of World Bank Seminars, seminars
of the Italian Foreign Trade Institute, seminars of OECD-SIGMA,
etc. SOFITA’s interpreters, translators and over 100 technical
staff worked hard for the successful holding of the Annual Meeting
of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in
1996 and the General Assembly of ICOMOS.
CLIENTS
SOFITA’s regular clients include: the National Assembly, the Council of Ministers, many Government Departments and foreign embassies, the Bulgarian National Bank and other banks, representations of major international institutions and companies like the World Bank, the IMF, Shell, Coca-Cola, Arthur Andersen, Deloitte & Touche, Coopers & Lybrant and many others.
COMPANY DOCUMENTATION AND LOCALISATION
In the last six years
SOFITA has gained experience in translation management
for huge volumes of corporate documentation such as the 4,000 pages
ordered by the Bulgarian Customs Directorate for a 6 months’
deadline, the order of Kirchman Corporation for 2,800 pages
executed in 2 months, the order of SCALA Int. for the translation
of 3500 pages and localisation of its bank and accounting software
for a 4 months’ period. This, of course, would be a hopeless effort
without our long experience in team work, without our pool of more
than 3,000 translators specialised in a broad variety of terminological
areas, and, indeed, the reliance on our clients’ faithful co-operation.
We have won tenders for translation services financed under PHARE
projects and signed contracts with the Bulgarian Telecom Company,
the Bulgarian Customs Directorate and the Ministry of
Social Welfare for exclusive provision of translation and interpreting
services. Upon the order of UNDP and our Ministry of Foreign
Affairs we have translated the "Final Act Embodying
the Results of the Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations"
- appr. 800 pages.
BULGARIAN LAW
Over the years SOFITA has developed translation expertise in many specialist areas and our proudest achievement is the publication of the Subscription series ‘Bulgarian Law in English’. At present, the series comprises over 300 Acts, Decrees and Regulations enacted in the last eight years, available on hard copy and files. The data base is updated within seven days after the publication of each amendment in the State Gazette. It is available in Internet by subscribing to INTERNET SECURITIES as well.
FACILITIES
Technologically and operationally SOFITA is far ahead of its main competitors in the country. We maintain the most up-to-date facilities - a local computer network of ten workstations (PC Pentium II); state-of-the-art software allowing us to process practically any type of file and offer desktop publishing ser-vices; two laser printers and one colour A3 format, a colour scanner. Communications are achieved with the help of a modern 3/8-line telephone exchange by ALCATEL; of 5 digital telephone lines, of two fax machines, of three data exchange modems, E-mail address through Internet and last but not least, a full day courier service in Sofia. All this does indeed allow us to meet the highest requirements of our clients.
